In a significant step forward for aquaculture research, SPAROS spearheaded a workshop last week on “Biomarkers for Fish Performance and Robustness Assessment” at Universidade do Algarve. This event was part of our ongoing projects “Ignition” and “Algae Vertical,” aimed at pioneering innovative solutions for aquaculture sustainability and efficiency.
The workshop convened experts and professionals from across the sector, including our partners from GreenCoLab, S2AQUAcoLAB, Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR), CIIMAR, and Universidad de Cรกdiz . Together, we explored ground breaking approaches in the use of biomarkers to assess fish health and performance, covering crucial topics like molecular markers, growth potential, oxidative stress, immune response, and stress prediction under various conditions.
We are grateful to all the participants for their valuable insights and discussions. Your collective expertise drives us closer to our goals within the Ignition and AlgaeVertical projects and beyond, paving the way for more resilient and robust aquaculture practices.
This collaborative effort highlights the importance of innovation and shared knowledge in our quest for sustainable aquaculture.
Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication to advancing aquaculture science and sustainability. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries together.

a standardization diet for zebrafish, in the USA.
Sparos was present at the 8th Strategic Conference for Zebrafish Investigators (SCZI/PI meeting) in Grove (California) and at the AQUACULTURE 2019 in New Orleans (Louisiana) to launch ZEBRAFEED in the USA. This diet is already commercialized in Europe since 2015.
SPAROS has developed ZEBRAFEED โ a standard and nutritionally balanced diet for zebrafish formulated with premium ingredients of high nutritional constancy, for all life stages of zebrafish.
ZEBRAFEED results in high survival of larvae, fast growth of juvenile fish and enhanced breeding success in adults. It incorporates the latest scientific knowledge on the nutritional requirements of zebrafish to ensure high welfare standards.
