MOONSHINE aims to develop a microalgae-based treatment of stored manure, before its application as a land fertilizer as this is currently leading to eutrophication via excessive nutrient runoff. The optimization of the water depuration and biomass production of the microalgae used for the manure treatment will allow its use in the aquaculture and chemical industries, thereby improving circular economy, self-sustainability, and eco-compatibility of livestock productions.
