The NoviFEED project aims to develop innovative IT tools to address one of the main challenges faced by the aquaculture industry nowadays – feeding optimization – with the aim of contributing to a more sustainable growth of the industry. The main objectives of the project are:

  • Study the effects of dissolved oxygen and feed composition on the feed intake, nutrient utilization and growth of Atlantic salmon and meagre.
  • Develop, apply and launch in the market two innovative IT tools, FEEDNETICS and FiT feeding tables, to optimize feed management operations of Atlantic salmon and meagre.

  • Estudar os efeitos do oxigénio dissolvido e da composição da ração no consumo de alimento, utilização de nutrientes e crescimento do salmão do Atlântico e da corvina;

Recent activity

In the context of the NoviFEED project a workshop about the effects of dissolved oxygen on salmon farming, was held on the 8th of February at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Bergen, Norway.

The main theme of this workshop was explored from different perspectives by four guest speakers with extensive experience and knowledge on the subject, who work in industrial and academic contexts. The presentations and round-table discussion, moderated by Björgolfur Hávardsson from NCE Seafood Innovation, were exciting and left much to think about in terms of approaches to adopt in order to promote good fish welfare and performance under stressful low oxygen conditions.
